What is Polyacrylic Acid?
Polyacrylic acid (PAA), a member of the synthetic polyacrylate family, originates from acrylic acid monomers through polymerization. It holds broad applicability in numerous sectors.
PAA displays attributes including high water absorption, viscosity management, and film formation. It’s widely employed in personal care items, detergents, adhesives, coatings, and water treatments as a thickener, dispersant, and stabilizer. In water treatment, PAA acts as a pH regulator and inhibitor, curbing mineral accumulation and corrosion.
Due to its metal ion interaction, PAA contributes to chelation therapy, sequestering heavy metals for medical use. It’s also beneficial in agriculture for soil conditioning and in textiles for dyeing and printing.
Various forms of PAA exist, such as powders, solutions, or gels, with properties adjustable through polymerization’s molecular weight and cross-linking degree.
