Tyrosinase controls the rate of melanogenesis. 4-Butylresorcinol can inhibit melanogenesis by directly inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase and the synthesis of B16 melanoma cells of tyrosinase without causing any cytotoxicity. In some in vitro studies, 4-Butylresorcinol can inhibit the production of melanin and the activity of tyrosinase and TRP-1.
